Renowned drummer James Kottak, celebrated for his impactful roles in hard rock bands Scorpions and Kingdom Come, has passed away at the age of 61. The news of his death was shared by his former band Scorpions on Tuesday via a heartfelt Facebook post. The cause of death has not been disclosed.

The Scorpions expressed their grief in the post, stating, “Very sad news … our dear friend and Drummer for 20 years James Kottak has passed at the age of 61. James was a wonderful human being, a great musician and loving family man … he was our Brother from another Mother and will be truly missed. … Rock ‘n Roll Forever. RIP James.”

James Kottak made history by becoming the first American musician to join the German rock group Scorpions in 1996. His studio debut with the band occurred in 1999 with the release of the album “Eye II Eye.” Kottak’s impactful drumming contributed significantly to Scorpions’ sound during his tenure with the group.

In September 2016, Kottak reportedly parted ways with the Scorpions, and his position was subsequently filled by Motörhead drummer Mikkey Dee.

Aside from his influential role in Scorpions, Kottak showcased his drumming prowess in various other bands, including hard rockers Kingdom Come, glam metal outfit Warrant, Buster Brown, English rock band The Cult, and his own punk rock group Kottak.
