Sammy Hagar’s plan to auction his rare 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari at the Barrett-Jackson event in Scottsdale, Arizona, has hit a temporary obstacle. The high-performance Italian supercar, known for its 950-horsepower hybrid engine capable of reaching 60 miles per hour in 2.5 seconds, requires a replacement for its specialized battery. Despite the initial announcement of the sale in November, a recent inspection revealed that the battery, with an expected eight-year lifespan, was nearing the end of its usability, and a replacement wouldn’t be available in time for the auction.

Hagar and Barrett-Jackson CEO Craig Jackson had hoped to fetch a premium for the celebrity-owned special edition, aiming for a record close to $5 million. However, due to the battery issue, the auction is now rescheduled for mid-October, coinciding with the singer’s 77th birthday.

The LaFerrari, one of only 499 produced, originally retailed for around $1.4 million. Hagar’s unique edition, featuring a personalized color scheme matching his jet’s interior, aims to set a new price record. The car will be displayed at Sammy’s Beach Bar in the South Hall of WestWorld, Scottsdale’s event venue, throughout the auction weekend.

Sammy Hagar, known as the “Red Rocker,” has a longstanding passion for fast cars, collecting them since his early solo career and immortalizing them in songs like “I Can’t Drive 55.” His history with fast cars even played a role in landing him a spot in Van Halen, as he was connected with guitarist Eddie Van Halen through a shared auto mechanic.

While Hagar’s collection spans American and German sports cars, Ferraris hold a special place in his heart. The 2015 LaFerrari, adorned with custom touches, is the jewel of his Ferrari stable. However, Hagar cited changes in eyesight and reflexes as reasons for parting with the hypercar, expressing a desire for someone else to enjoy its extraordinary performance.

In November, Hagar told , “If I could just park that car in my living room and sit in it with some popcorn and watch movies, I’d do it. But these cars, all cars, are meant to be driven. It’s the most amazing car I’ve ever owned. But it’s time.”

Despite the temporary delay, anticipation remains high for the auction of Sammy Hagar’s LaFerrari, a unique blend of celebrity ownership and high-performance automotive excellence. The event in October will likely draw considerable attention from car enthusiasts eager to acquire a piece of rock and roll history.
