From Castle to Cloister: The Transformation of Kylemore Abbey

In 1903, Mitchell Henry sold Kylemore Castle to the Duke and Duchess of Manchester, who used it as a private residence. However, financial difficulties forced them to sell the property in 1920, and Kylemore Castle was left abandoned for several years.
In 1920, the Benedictine nuns purchased Kylemore Abbey and transformed it into a convent and girls’ boarding school. The nuns brought new life to the castle, preserving its grandeur while adding a sense of spirituality and serenity to the grounds.
