Doja Cat has found herself embroiled in a distressing family situation as her mother, Deborah Sawyer, has reportedly filed a domestic violence restraining order against Doja Cat’s brother, Raman Dlamini. The court documents, obtained  on Thursday, reveal that Sawyer filed the request in Los Angeles County Superior Court on January 12. In the complaint, Sawyer accuses Dlamini of blocking her from entering her home on January 10 and refusing to leave, creating an environment in which she felt unsafe.

The court filing goes on to detail a disturbing history of alleged physical and verbal abuse inflicted by Dlamini upon his mother. Sawyer claims that in a November incident, the 30-year-old brother purportedly choked her and threatened her life. Furthermore, Sawyer asserts that she had previously obtained a restraining order against him in 2017 due to an escalation of his alleged abusive behavior.

In addition to requesting a no-contact order and urging the court to mandate Dlamini stay at least 300 feet away from her and her residence, Sawyer has sought to extend the protection to include Doja Cat (real name: Amala Dlamini) and Sawyer’s 13-year-old grandson, Myles Dlamini.

According to the court documents, Sawyer alleges that Doja Cat has been subjected to physical abuse by her brother, including incidents resulting in “teeth being knocked out and bruises and lacerations.” The complaint also contends that Doja Cat has experienced verbal abuse characterized by “degrading and demeaning” language. Sawyer describes Dlamini’s impact on her daughter as making her “feel unsafe and traumatized.”

The situation reportedly extends to Sawyer’s grandson, Myles, who is said to have suffered verbal abuse from Dlamini in the form of “insults, shaming, and demeaning slurs.”

A hearing for the case is scheduled for January 31 in Van Nuys, California, according to information from the LA County Court website.

As Doja Cat’s family grapples with this legal situation, it comes at a time of professional success for the Grammy-winning rapper. She recently released her fourth album, “Scarlet,” in September, which achieved the No. 4 spot on the Billboard 200 chart and featured the No. 1 single “Paint the Town Red.” Doja Cat, known for hits like “Kiss Me More,” concluded her U.S. Scarlet Tour in December and is slated to headline Coachella 2024 alongside Lana Del Rey and Tyler, the Creator.
