Is this Southwest Airlines? New appearance revealed as in-flight upgrades are introduced

Southwest Airlines new look

Southwest Airlines is set to give its airplane cabins a makeover, not just for aesthetics but to introduce practical enhancements for passengers. The Texas-based airline is partnering with design company Tangerine for a “refresh” on new aircraft deliveries starting next year. Meanwhile, Southwest continues to update its existing fleet with changes previously announced in 2022. Here are three key improvements that Southwest customers can expect on future flights:

  1. New Seats: Southwest’s new aircraft will feature premium seats provided by RECARO, a company known for motorsport racing and gaming seats, as well as car seats for kids and aircraft seating. The RECARO seats include a multi-adjustable headrest cushion for enhanced head and neck support, along with an intuitively designed seat for ultimate comfort while maximizing seat width and overall support. In addition to charging ports, new seats will feature trays designed for holding personal electronics.
  2. Personal Electronic Device Holders: The new RECARO seats will come equipped with personal electronic device holders, eliminating the need for passengers to awkwardly hold smartphones or prop up tablets on seat trays during flights. This addition allows for hands-free viewing of the free entertainment available on Southwest flights.
  3. Personal Power Ports and Larger Overhead Bins: Since the previous year, Southwest’s new Boeing 737 Max aircraft have been delivered with in-seat USB-A and USB-C power ports, as well as larger overhead bins for luggage. The airline is extending these features to its existing Max 8 and Boeing 737-800 aircraft, expecting to complete the process over the next several years.

Behind the Scenes: Southwest is also collaborating with its apparel vendor, Design Collective by Cintas, to work on new uniform designs. In the upcoming spring, the airline plans to introduce a feature allowing Rapid Rewards members to book flights with a combination of points and cash, offering more flexibility in payment options. Additionally, Southwest completed fleet-wide upgrades to its Wi-Fi equipment last year, aiming to increase bandwidth and data speeds on flights. A new perk was introduced for A-List Preferred members, providing two free premium drinks per flight. The airline also implemented new features on its app, website, and airport kiosks, allowing customers to track their luggage, enroll in free same-day standby, and more.

Southwest Airlines’ commitment to improving the passenger experience encompasses not only aesthetic upgrades but practical features aimed at enhancing comfort, convenience, and entertainment during flights. These improvements, spanning seating, device holders, power ports, and overhead storage, reflect the airline’s responsiveness to customer and employee feedback to create a more satisfying and efficient onboard experience. As Southwest continues its fleet updates and introduces new services, passengers can look forward to an even more seamless and enjoyable travel experience in the coming years.
