Ye, the artist formerly known as Kanye West, has unveiled a bold dental transformation, showcasing a set of metal grills with pointed canines on his Instagram Story. The rapper, who has previously faced controversy for spreading antisemitic rhetoric (for which he has since apologized), displayed his experimental dentistry without removing his natural teeth. Despite initial speculation,   the fixed prosthodontics used in this dental procedure are “fixed and permanent” but did not require the removal of Ye’s actual teeth.

Contrary to assumptions that these might be veneers or grills, the source described the procedure as “experimental dentistry” that Ye collaborated on with professional assistance. The dental piece is predominantly made of titanium, with additional elements of palladium and platinum in various areas. Dr. Thomas Connelly, a dentist based in Beverly Hills and New York City with experience working with celebrities, crafted and fitted the dental piece for Ye.

Dr. Connelly, confirming the details to Complex, emphasized that Ye did not undergo tooth removal and still maintains a full set of natural dentition, describing his dental health as “healthy and happy.” USA TODAY has reached out to Dr. Connelly for further comment on the procedure.

In a separate image shared by Ye, he likened his new dental look to Jaws, the iconic villain portrayed by Richard Kiel in the late ’70s Roger Moore James Bond films, “The Spy Who Loved Me” and “Moonraker.” The distinctive appearance of the metal grills drew attention, sparking discussions about the artistic and unconventional choices made in the realm of cosmetic dentistry.

Interestingly, Ye’s 10-year-old daughter, North West, also made headlines for showcasing her own set of grills. Posted on the TikTok account she shares with her mother, Kim Kardashian, North West revealed a photo dump featuring her, her mom, and friends. In one selfie, she proudly displayed accessorized top and bottom teeth.

This dental revelation comes at a significant time for Ye, as he is gearing up to release his 11th studio album, “Vultures,” a collaborative project with Ty Dolla $ign. This album marks a pivotal moment for Ye’s career, considering the turbulence caused by antisemitic remarks he made in 2022, which had repercussions on his music and fashion endeavors.

The title track of “Vultures” debuted on streaming platforms on Nov. 22, but it faced backlash due to controversial lyrics about sleeping with Jewish women. Ye has been navigating the aftermath of his antisemitic behavior, culminating in a social media apology last month. Responding to his apology, the Anti-Defamation League acknowledged it as a first step and emphasized that actions would speak louder than words in making amends to the Jewish community and others affected by Ye’s harmful rhetoric.

The artist’s recent dental transformation adds another layer to his evolving public image and creative expressions, serving as a distinctive element that contributes to the broader narrative of his artistic and personal journey. As Ye continues to make headlines, both for his artistic endeavors and personal choices, the reception of his upcoming album and the impact of his actions on various communities will be closely observed.
