In a recent interview on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” Justin Timberlake, a former member of the ’90s boy band NSYNC, hinted at the possibility of releasing new music with the group. Timberlake shared, “We’ve been in the studio, so there may be a little something in the future, too.” This revelation comes after NSYNC’s reunion in September when they collaborated on the single “Better Place” for the soundtrack of Timberlake’s animated comedy “Trolls Band Together.” The song marked NSYNC’s first release since their 2001 album “Celebrity.”
NSYNC’s return to the spotlight was teased at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards, where the group made an appearance and presented the best pop award, won by Taylor Swift. Timberlake expressed his enjoyment of the reunion, stating, “That was fun. It’s kind of crazy, like, there’s so much that just picks up right where it left off as far as the chemistry.”
NSYNC, formed in 1995, gained immense popularity and success throughout the late ’90s and early 2000s. Their self-titled debut album was released in March 1998, and the boy band went on to achieve nine Top 10 hits on Billboard’s Pop Airplay chart, three multiplatinum albums, and eight Grammy nominations.
Reflecting on his time in NSYNC and its impact on his musical journey, Timberlake said, “Growing up in the industry and getting access to so much in the studio, I just became like a studio rat. I just loved being in there, and I loved the creative process. And also, as it pertains to harmonies, I spent some time with four other guys doing a lot of harmonies.”
The success of NSYNC’s comeback with “Better Place” surprised even the band members. Joey Fatone, Timberlake’s NSYNC bandmate, discussed the song’s reception in an October interview with OK magazine, saying, “It’s as if we died and came back to life.” Despite the positive response, Fatone emphasized that a reunion tour is not in the immediate plans. While fans are eager for a tour, logistical considerations such as members’ personal commitments, including marriages and family responsibilities, need to be addressed. Fatone acknowledged, “There’s five guys — some of us are married, some have kids, some may not want to do it. We have to have that conversation and talk about what we do now that the song is out there.”
Timberlake, who is preparing for the release of his sixth solo album titled “Everything I Thought It Was,” expressed his love for the creative process and harmonies developed during his time with NSYNC. As fans anticipate potential new music from the iconic boy band, the hints from Timberlake suggest that NSYNC might not be done making music together, offering a nostalgic thrill for fans of the beloved ’90s group.
The release date for the upcoming NSYNC project is yet to be announced, leaving fans in suspense about what the future holds for this legendary boy band.
