Former Fox News correspondent Geraldo Rivera has secured a new television position after bidding farewell to the network several months ago.

Announced on Wednesday, NewsNation revealed that Rivera will assume the role of correspondent-at-large, starting immediately. In this capacity, he will make appearances on both daytime and primetime programming across the network. Michael Corn, president of news at NewsNation, expressed enthusiasm about Rivera’s addition, stating, “Geraldo is a legendary journalist whose talent and experience is unrivaled in the industry. We look forward to him joining the network and providing our viewers with his one-of-a-kind analysis.”

Rivera reciprocated the excitement, affirming his delight in joining the NewsNation team.

This return to cable news arrives nearly nine months after Rivera’s departure from Fox News. His exit from the network initially sparked speculation of termination, with Rivera mentioning his decision to quit amidst “growing tensions.” However, Fox News asserted that they had reached an amicable conclusion with Rivera, celebrating his departure on the June 30 broadcast of Fox & Friends.

Geraldo Rivera boasts a storied career in television news spanning over five decades. He commenced his journey in journalism at WABC-TV in New York and has since worked for various cable news networks, including ABC News, Fox News, and now NewsNation. His extensive resume includes coverage of significant events such as the Iraq War, Operation Enduring Freedom, the Michael Jackson trial, and Hurricane Katrina.

Aside from his journalism career, Rivera has also contributed to philanthropic endeavors and hosted his own talk show. He is the author of several books and has received accolades for his journalistic achievements.

Rivera’s inaugural appearance on NewsNation is scheduled for “CUOMO,” a program hosted by Chris Cuomo, on Wednesday, Feb. 14, at 8 p.m. ET.

Regarding his departure from Fox News, Rivera cited underlying tensions beyond mere editorial differences or personal grievances. He asserted that leaving his role on “The Five” was a voluntary decision, attributing it to the intimate dynamics of the show and the personal friction it entailed. Despite his departure, Rivera maintained his role as a “correspondent at large” with Fox, with his contract set to expire in January 2025.

Throughout his tenure at Fox News, Rivera engaged in colorful exchanges with colleagues, most notably Greg Gutfeld, leading to occasional suspensions. At 80 years old, Rivera expressed a desire to avoid such friction and personal dynamics, emphasizing his preference for a less contentious environment.

In summary, Geraldo Rivera’s transition to NewsNation marks a new chapter in his illustrious career, bringing his wealth of experience and insights to a new audience. His departure from Fox News reflects a desire for a change in environment and a shift away from personal tensions, signaling his readiness for new adventures in the world of journalism.
