Legal Action Urges DOJ to Disclose Deliberations on Potential Charges Against Hunter Biden for Alleged Sex-Trafficking Offenses

The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, is taking legal action to compel the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and Special Counsel David Weiss to disclose information regarding their considerations of investigating or charging Hunter Biden, President Joe Biden’s son, with sex trafficking offenses. This move comes after the Heritage Foundation initially submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request in July, seeking records and communications from the DOJ, indicating whether charges under the Mann Act were being contemplated.

The Mann Act, enacted in 1910, prohibits the transportation of individuals across state lines for the purpose of prostitution. The FOIA request was prompted by a June testimony before the House Ways and Means Committee by IRS agent Joseph Ziegler. During the testimony, Ziegler suggested that federal authorities had reviewed evidence related to potential Mann Act violations by Hunter Biden. Notably, Ziegler and another IRS agent, Gary Shapley, alleged that DOJ officials impeded their efforts to investigate Hunter Biden.

Ziegler informed lawmakers that Hunter Biden had claimed tax deductions for expenditures on an individual he referred to as his assistant, suspected by investigators to be a known prostitute. He revealed instances of “Mann Act violations,” involving the transportation and accommodation expenses of individuals across state lines, which were allegedly funded by Hunter Biden.

The lawsuit filed by the Heritage Foundation accuses the DOJ and David Weiss of failing to produce the requested records, leading to the legal action in federal court in Delaware. The FOIA request was triggered by Ziegler’s testimony and sought information on the DOJ’s consideration of Mann Act charges against Hunter Biden.

In recent developments, a criminal complaint filed in California federal court highlighted additional instances where Hunter Biden allegedly made payments to exotic dancers and escorts. The complaint detailed a $1,500 payment to an exotic dancer for artwork, another $1,248 for an escort to fly from Los Angeles to New York, and numerous payments for escorts, including one for $11,500.

The Heritage Foundation’s lawsuit contends that Weiss’s office has not provided sufficient justification for withholding the requested records under FOIA exemptions. The conservative think tank aims to compel the DOJ and Weiss’s office to conduct a thorough search for non-exempt documents and release them as per their initial FOIA request.

As of the time of press, attorneys representing Hunter Biden have not responded to inquiries from NTD News regarding the FOIA lawsuit initiated by the Heritage Foundation. The legal proceedings underscore the ongoing scrutiny surrounding Hunter Biden’s financial and personal activities and raise questions about potential legal consequences he may face in connection with alleged violations of the Mann Act.
