Massachusetts Peloton Community Generously Tips Servers with a $7,200 Gift: “I just want to give them all a hug”

Palethon Group leaves a $7k tip

In a heartwarming gesture of generosity, a Peloton group known as Wicked Smaht Zone left an astonishing $7,200 tip for servers at Red’s Kitchen and Tavern in Peabody, Massachusetts. The unsuspecting recipients of this extraordinary act of kindness were Raisa Zan and Nicole Boiardi, two dedicated employees working at the family-owned establishment.

The story unfolded on a seemingly ordinary Sunday morning when Zan and Boiardi began their shift, unsure of what to expect due to an impending Nor’easter. Little did they know, their day was about to take an unexpected turn when a group of 40 people from Wicked Smaht Zone, a local Peloton community, arrived at the restaurant. After efficiently serving the group, the servers were informed by their manager that the Peloton members had left an extraordinary $7,200 tip.

Zan expressed her initial expectations, saying, “We were expecting the regular 20%. If people leave us an extra $5 or $10, we are so happy.” However, the Peloton group, known for its repeated acts of generosity, chose to go above and beyond, leaving a substantial tip that far exceeded the norm.

Boiardi described the moment the group left the tip as both surreal and challenging, expressing a desire to give them all a hug in gratitude. The servers were caught off guard as they found “a big wad of hundreds” discreetly left behind while they were attending to other tables.

The impact of this unexpected windfall was significant for the servers, considering the typical challenges faced by those in the service industry. Boiardi emphasized the precarious financial situation of servers in the U.S., where many rely heavily on tips to make ends meet, especially during slow periods.

“This is great. I’m trying to absorb it, but I have to go get drinks from my other table,” Boiardi reflected, highlighting the balance between the joy of the moment and the responsibilities of the job.

Notably, this act of kindness comes at a time when both servers could use the additional support. Boiardi, who recently assisted her daughter in purchasing a truck, found the timing particularly fortuitous. The generous tip not only allowed her to contribute to her daughter’s purchase but also served as a motivating factor to invest in her small business selling home goods and vintage clothing.

Wicked Smaht Zone has become known for their philanthropic tipping endeavors. This Peloton group, led by Mendon resident Josh Vernon, started their charitable tipping journey during the COVID-19 pandemic. Their initial act of generosity was a $3,600 tip left at Lowell’s Restaurant in Mendon, followed by a $4,600 tip at Plymouth’s Tavern in early 2023.

Vernon expressed his hope that their actions would inspire others to spread kindness in their communities. “I hope more people will see it and do something – even if it’s just buying a cup of coffee for a stranger,” he shared in a previous interview.

Boiardi, deeply moved by the Peloton group’s generosity, expressed her desire to pay it forward. “The Peloton group and everybody that contributed are great people, and I hope they continue to be able to do that,” she said, reflecting the collective hope that such acts of kindness create a ripple effect, inspiring more people to lend a helping hand when it is needed most.
